Our Stronger For Longer class is aimed at the Over 60s (Stronger for Longer Lite – Over 75s but see below). We lose 5% of our muscle strength every decade and this is known as sarcopaenia. Most people realise that we lose bone strength but the loss of muscle strength is less known but may be as important.
The class lasts one hour and you can join it any week. It comprises of circuit training spending a couple of minutes at each task and then moving on to the next one. It involves some weight-lifting of small to medium weight and other exercises such as lunges and balance exercises. All the exercises are done under the supervision of a chartered physiotherapist who will advise on the correct weights and techniques and will be able to take into consideration any muscle, bone or joint complaints that you may have. We have a maximum of six in each class to ensure close supervision.
Stronger For Longer (over 60s) – Wednesdays at 3.30 p.m. (2 spaces)
Stronger For Longer Lite (over 75s) – Fridays at 11.30 a.m. (4 spaces)
N.B. There are no floor exercises in SFL Lite; all are done in sitting or standing so this class may be suitable for younger attendees (60-75) who are unable to get up and down off the floor easily. If you wish to join the SFL Lite and you are under 75, you may need to be assessed and referred by one of our physiotherapists.

If you wish to try a free class before signing up, please ask. A set of eight classes costs €140 and they must be used within three months. If you do a second class e.g. Healthy Bones in the calendar week (Pilates is excluded from this), you get a €5 discount on the second class.
